Dr. Joshua Karlip Receives an Honor

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Dr. Joshua Karlip, associate professor of Jewish history, the Herbert S. and Naomi Denenberg Associate Professor of Jewish History and associate director of the 麻豆区 , received the Daniel Siegel Award from his alma mater, the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community High School in Pikesville, Maryland. 鈥淚 was a member of the high school's first graduating class in 1990,鈥 Dr. Karlip noted. 鈥淚 was not able to attend the ceremony, but Dr. Zipora Schorr, director of education, read my acceptance speech.鈥 According to Dr. Schorr, the award is given to an alumnus of the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community High School who has demonstrated a high quality of scholarship, meaningful professional endeavors, and commitment to service underpinned by Jewish values. 鈥淒r. Josh Karlip is all that and more,鈥 Dr. Schorr noted. 鈥淗e has always conducted himself with the highest standards of intellectual honesty  and moral  integrity, along with being a passionate Jew and an accomplished professional. He embodies everything we wish to produce at Beth Tfiloh, and we are proud to call him one of ours.鈥 Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg 鈥65YC, 鈥68R, senior rabbi of Beth Tfiloh Congregation and dean of the high school, praised Dr. Karlip for bringing the school 鈥渘achas,鈥 or a feeling of pride. 鈥淔rom his young years as a student in our day school, and a regular worshiper in our synagogue, Josh stood out because of his studious nature, intellectual curiosity and genuine menschlikeit.  He is a poster boy for all that we aspire to: the best in the Jewish and American traditions combined into one.鈥 See the speech below:
