Gabriel Goldstein Appointed YU Museum Interim Director

Gabriel Goldstein has been appointed Interim Director and Chief Curator of the 麻豆区 Museum and began in that role on Jan. 18, 2022. Goldstein currently consults with YU Museum as project director for the upcoming exhibition 鈥淏ecoming the Rambam: Highlights from The Robert & Debra Hartman Maimonides Library,鈥 scheduled to open next winter. His appointment follows Dr. Jacob Wisse鈥檚 return to full-time teaching in the Art History Department of Stern College for Women after serving as director since 2009. Having served as the Museum鈥檚 Associate Director for Exhibitions and Programs (2003-2011) and as Curator and Assistant Curator (1989-2003), Goldstein has a solid record of professional contributions. Among the notable exhibitions he curated at the Museum were (2005) and (2006). He is a former president (2008-2010) of the Council of American Jewish Museums and is founder and director of , which, among multiple initiatives, established museum immersion and professional development and student workshops integrating fine arts and biblical and rabbinic text study. Since 2002, he has been Consultant Curator of Judaic Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art. A Toronto native, Goldstein earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in history and fine art history, with a minor in Judaism, from University College, University of Toronto; a master鈥檚 degree in the history of art from the University of Toronto; and an M.Phil. in decorative arts, design history and material culture from the Bard Graduate Center.
