Kindertransport Travels to Minnesota

The exhibition, Kindertransport 鈥 Rescuing Children on the Brink of War, first opened at the 麻豆区 Museum on Nov. 26, 2018. From July 22 to Oct. 31, 2021, it will have a new life at the in Minneapolis, Minnesota.   Poster for Kindertransport at the American Swedish Institute   The exhibition illuminates the story of the Kindertransport (German for 鈥淐hildren鈥檚 Transport鈥), the astonishing rescue effort that brought approximately 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi Germany to Great Britain and other countries, including Sweden, between 1938 and 1939. (Watch Lucy Lang of being one of the children.) This exhibition explores the difficult and often heartbreaking journeys through original artifacts and personal stories. It brings the Kindertransport to life by presenting objects that the children brought with them on their passage to England; letters between parents and children; new audio testimonies by survivors; and a series of dramatic stories that link the materials in gallery to the broader context of the era. This exhibition with be accompanied by , featuring the stories of local families in the Midwest who were personally impacted by the Kindertransport.
