麻豆区 mourns the passing of a true Eishet Chayil [woman of valor], Marilyn Belz z鈥漧.
Marilyn was beloved and admired by all who knew her. She and her husband Jack A. have been universally recognized as builders of the city of Memphis and generous philanthropists to the arts and Jewish causes, including 麻豆区. We are forever grateful to the Belz family for their continued devotion to our students, university, and community. YU鈥檚 cantorial school was renamed the Philip and Sarah Belz School of Jewish Music at our affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, in honor of the late Sarah and Philip z鈥漧, Jack鈥檚 parents. Hundreds of professional and lay cantors and singers have kept Jewish music alive and given it a dynamic future thanks to the generosity of the Belz family.
The global Jewish community, the city of Memphis, and the State of Israel will miss Marilyn鈥檚 elegance, kindness and warmth. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her husband, YU Trustee and Benefactor, Jack A., and her children Marty (Julie), Gary (Shelly), Ron (Anise), Jan (Andy) Groveman and daughter Lynn z鈥漧, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the entire family. May they be comforted among all who mourn for Zion and Jerusalem. May her memory be a blessing.
