Inaugural Event for Biotech Leaders Comes to the Katz School

On Nov. 14, 2019, Dr. Rana Khan, director of the MS in Biotechnology Management and Entrepreneurship at the , hosted 鈥淲orking in Biotech: The Exciting and Challenging Parts,鈥 a forum brought to New York City by Academia to Industry (A2I), which is part of , an Israel-based nonprofit organization that harnesses the power of senior Israeli scientists living abroad. According to its website, the mission of A2I is 鈥渂uilding a global life-science industry network to expand the opportunities for Israeli scientists around the world to form connections and collaborations among themselves [and] enable talented Israeli scientists to augment their extensive research expertise with the skill set required to successfully advance the life science industry worldwide and in Israel.鈥 This event, the first of its kind held by A2I, drew more than 35 attendees who came to learn about how to establish and manage a biotech startup, including Israeli academic scientists, members of ScienceAbroad and biotech executives and entrepreneurs of related industries, both Israeli and friends of Israel. The roster of panelists included:
  • Dr. Boris Shor: founder and CEO of Manhattan BioSolutions and founder of BioIDEA
  • Dr. Sarah Bettigole: co-founder and director of biology for Quentis Therapeutics
  • Golan Vaknin: founder and executive director of ESEV
  • Dr. Dan Zekzer: principal & co-founder of Match DIscovery
鈥淭he goal of the A2I forum is to create an environment for communication between academic scientists and biotech professionals,鈥 said Dr. Khan. 鈥淲e鈥檙e glad to be part of a collaboration between Israeli biotech companies in Israel and United States as well as with all the incubators and accelerators operating globally to support A2I.鈥
