YC Honors Program Welcomes Eugene Volokh, Distinguished Professor at UCLA School of Law

On Tuesday March 2, 2021, the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program at welcomed Eugene Volokh, UCLA School of Law鈥檚 Gary T. Schwartz Distinguished Professor of Law to its weekly Honors speaker series.

Prof. Volokh, a preeminent constitutional law scholar, delivered the lecture, 鈥淭he Free Exercise of Religion: COVID Shutdowns and Beyond,鈥 which discussed freedom of religion in the United States.
During his talk, he provided an overview of the judicial and statutory evolution of religious protections and discussed New York State鈥檚 recent controversial decision to limit access to places of worship during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session with the students. 鈥淚t was a privilege to hear Prof. Volokh's masterful lecture on such a timely issue, and his YU baseball cap was the cherry on top!鈥 remarked Charlie Kramer 鈥22YC.
鈥淭he students were fascinated by Prof. Volokh鈥檚 insights and observations,鈥 said Dr. Eliezer Schnall, director of the Honors Program. 鈥淲e are so thankful to him for making the time to speak with our Honors students and look forward to hosting distinguished and highly accomplished speakers like Prof. Volokh in the future.鈥
