Lucy Lang and former YU Museum Director Jacob Wisse

The 麻豆区 community joins in mourning the loss of an extraordinary, elegant and generous woman, Mrs. Lucy Lang.  Beloved by her family and friends, Mrs. Lang was one of the founders of the 麻豆区 Museum Board of Overseers, a longtime trustee of the YU Museum, and a devoted friend and supporter of 麻豆区. Born in Vienna, Austria, Mrs. Lang travelled on the Kindertransport, with her sister, Erica Jesselson (YU Benefactor and Honorary Degree Recipient in 1998), that brought 10,000 children to safety in the United Kingdom. She was featured in 鈥淜indertransport鈥揜escuing Children on the Brink of War,鈥� an exhibition at the Museum in 2018, and . She was also a participant in Names, Not Numbers, a Holocaust documentary film project in which high school students interview survivors about their experience.

Mrs. Lang and her husband, Edmond z鈥漧, were adored by the children and adults of the Riverdale community in which they lived for many years. An example of her generosity, kindness and warmth are the many baby blankets she lovingly crocheted for the children and grandchildren of friends and family (see right). We extend our heartfelt condolences to her children, Claire Strauss and Elliot Lang; nephew Michael Jesselson (member of the YU Board of Trustees and Honorary Degree Recipient recipient in 2002); and the entire family. May her family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
