Curriculum Overview: Transfer B.S. in Nursing

The Âé¶¹Çø Katz School Transfer B.S. in Nursing curriculum consists of 62 nursing credits completed across 5 full-time semesters over 21 months, aligned with the AACN's 2026 Edition of The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. Students are evaluated on demonstrated competencies across all 10 domains of professional nursing practice — not simply on seat time. An optional AI in Nursing elective is available in the final semester. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Âé¶¹Çø.

Seven Clinical Rotations — NYC Metro Area Hospitals

Students complete seven clinical rotations at hospitals and healthcare agencies across the New York City metro area. All placements are coordinated by the program.

Medical-Surgical Nursing (2 Rotations)

Adult inpatient acute and chronic care. Students develop clinical assessment, medication administration, care coordination, and clinical judgment across complex patient populations on hospital medical-surgical floors. 

Maternity Nursing

Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care at NYC metro area hospitals. Includes newborn assessment, high-risk obstetrics, and family-centered practice. 

Pediatric Nursing

Care of infants, children, and adolescents in hospital and outpatient settings. Students apply pediatric-specific assessment, family-centered care, and pediatric pharmacology.

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

Inpatient psychiatric units and behavioral health facilities. Skills in mental status assessment, therapeutic communication, de-escalation, and psychopharmacology.

Community and Population Health Nursing

Community health agencies, public health departments, and school and community clinic settings across New York City. Students apply epidemiology, social determinants of health, and health equity frameworks.

Leadership in Nursing and Transition into Practice

Adult inpatient acute and chronic care. Students apply leadership principles and theory and develop leadership skills needed to enter the nursing workforce.

The Transfer B.S. in Nursing offers an optional AI in Nursing elective in the final semester. Students explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping clinical practice, including diagnostic AI, clinical decision support tools, intelligent documentation, and patient monitoring systems. 

This is one of the first nursing electives of its kind in New York City, preparing graduates for the AI-integrated healthcare environments they will encounter in practice.

The Transfer B.S. in Nursing curriculum is built on the AACN's 2026 Edition of The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education — one of the first programs in the nation to implement this framework from program launch. Students are evaluated on demonstrated competencies across all 10 domains: Knowledge for Nursing Practice, Person-Centered Care, Population Health, Scholarship, Quality and Safety, Interprofessional Partnerships, Systems-Based Practice, Informatics and Healthcare Technologies, Professionalism, and Personal/Professional/Leadership Development.
